From my understanding it is good. I am not a female, so cannot necessarily comment from personal experience, but there are many female partners, and each team seems to contain many females. It does not seem like a 'boys club' and it seems to me that women get treated with respect. I am also aware that the maternity leave policy is great, although this is something I am not entirely familiar with.

It would be good to get more diversity in the Auckland office.
Auckland - 28 Nov 2022
The firm has a great percentage of women, however lacks a lot of cultural diversity. Would be great to have more people of colour. Seems to be good flexibility for parents.
Intern, Auckland - 28 Nov 2022
The firm has a relatively decent track record in relation to treatment of women, but it has some way to go in relation to ethnic minorities and the LGBTQA community, in that there is a lack of understanding and/or initiatives that actively make individuals in these communities feel welcome or appreciated. Like other firms, there are certain initiatives that appear somewhat tokenistic.

The culture is very inclusive for all. As a woman I do not feel discriminated against. Strong policies around child care and maternity leave. LGBT representation at high levels. Ethnic minority recruitment could be improved on.

I appreciate how Lane Neave encourages diversity within the firm, particularly gender diversity.
Intern, Christchurch - 23 Nov 2022
Lane Neave seems very in favour of supporting women in the industry and sets a clear diversity policy.
Intern, Christchurch - 22 Nov 2022
I was so impressed by the number of women at the pre-interview function and who are summer clerks. I know Lane Neave recently won an award for being the Women in Business Law firm of the year (or something like that) and it really shows

My company is mostly women - which is great and has excellent maternity leave policies.
Graduate, Christchurch - 21 Nov 2022
Great male/female ratio, although less so a partnership level. Good parental leave policy.

I have not observed any actions that really indicate a commitment to increasing diversity. The use of the reo feels a bit tokenistic. My experience in Christchurch was that the city felt less progressive compared to others in New Zealand. While the firm may be taking steps towards being more diverse, overhearing some questionable and outdated comments do not make it seem particularly welcoming. I don't think these are ever made in malice or with an understanding that certain jokes are not ok, but some of the things I overheard made me feel like I had gone back in time about 12 years. The impression I came away with is that if any issue raised would be looked at as PC gone mad - when really... the rest of the world is past moving forward thinking about intersectional issues more.

While I have not seen anything problematic from a diversity perspective, I do not see much effort put towards promotion and celebration of diversity.
Midlevel, Wellington - 21 Oct 2022
We have a lot of women at Lane Neave which is great. We don't have large numbers of ethic minorities, but I believe that reflects on Christchurch (not being a particularly diverse city) rather than on Lane Neave. We seem to have quite a high turnover at the moment, but I believe that is reflective of the market. Our maternity policy I believe is very good.

Plenty of diversity with respect to women Not a great deal of diversity when it comes to ethnic minorities Plenty of support and provision made for child care, maternity leave.

Hang our hat on having high percentage of women, very little M?ori/Pasifika representation doesn't do much bar The Wiki o the reo M?ori, does very little/nothing in terms of LGBT such as pronouns in email signatures

Equality is a huge strength at our firm. There are lots of female partners i.e. no gender disparity. Everyone respects one another. Good retention rates from what I have seen.
Midlevel, Christchurch - 31 Oct 2019
I am not aware of any issues, or any efforts, however this does not mean either don't exist.
Graduate, Christchurch - 15 Oct 2019
Really good. I have two young children and the firm is flexible with leave when needed and when I was breastfeeding etc.
