What does the summer internship programme involve? |He aha ngā āhuatanga o te kaupapa tūnga whakangungu mō te raumati?
The Ministry of Education summer internship programme is a paid 12-week internship over the summer holidays. Opportunities are available in a range of different areas across the organisation, and can give you a real taste of where your career could take you.
We have a range of opportunities available across the organisation including: Business Improvement, IT, Early Learning, Māori Education, HR, Property, Procurement, Business Services and more. If you have a particular area you are interested in, you will have the opportunity to specify this during your application.
You'll be working on real projects with experienced colleagues, who'll support you to develop your skills and knowledge further. Your team, your fellow interns and the Early in Careers team will be there to support you every step of the way to make sure your experience with us is an enjoyable one.
There will also be learning and development opportunities made available to you during your internship including various workshops, events and job shadowing.
Who are we looking for? |Kei te kimi mātou i a wai?
We are looking for resilient and driven people who are motivated to make a difference to our education system. We are looking for effective communicators, who enjoy working as part of a team and collaborating to make a positive contribution to our country's future.
You don't need to be a A grade student, what matters to us is that you are passionate about making a difference. There is such a variety of opportunities at the Ministry and so for us it is more about hearing what you bring to the table. Tell us about your culture, your skills and your experiences, everything that makes you, you.
We consider applicants from all academic backgrounds, so if you're keen to contribute and learn, then we want to hear from you!
We also welcome applications from students from diverse backgrounds, including Māori, Pacific and Disabled people that will enrich our understanding of the education system.
While you do need to have completed at least two years of tertiary study, we're looking to see what makes you unique. We don't expect our interns to have previous work experience or knowledge about the education sector, but we would love to hear about what sets you apart. Tell us about any voluntary or community work that you have done, any leadership experience that you have and any languages that you speak. Anything that makes you stand out.
