Application Process & Interviews at New Zealand Steel

I had the interview through Team with general questions. And visited on site to meet engineers to know more about the plant works.

One online interview at first and then another in-person interview at Glenbrook.

I started working for NZS as a summer student at the end of 2016 and was interviewed at the time. I came back each summer until I graduated but was not interviewed again, just applied and told I was accepted and informed where I would be spending the summer. Once I graduated it was a similar situation where I applied and continued in the same department as the previous summer but was a Graduate engineer rather than a Summer Intern

The interview process involved an informal phone interview, a video interview, site tour, IQ test and health test.

1. How do you know about NZ Steel? 2. Why do you want to join this graduate programme? Your motivation. 3. What is your ideal position in NZ Steel? 4. Why would we choose you over the competition? Tell us what aspects of your experience makes you a suitable candidate?

It was quite a typical interview structure What skills do you bring to the company? Why should we hire you? What interests you about this role? What are your hobbies?

Questions asked were common industry questions such as: what you are interested in working on, why you choose what you studied, where do you see yourself heading and why you want to work here and also more personal questions relating to your background, family, culture, etc.

I would recommend them to know the plant they are applying for and general backgrounds towards NZ Steel.

It would be good if you can show your teamwork, passion and strong interest in problem solving. Prepare some questions to ask the interviewers to learn more about your position.

Be humble, motivated and willing to learn. Consider diversity and inclusion in all your decisions and projects

I would recommend learning more about the processes involved in producing steel and finding any questions that you may have on the way to show that you are both interested and willing to learn more.
