Your growth and skills development doesn't end at induction, it continues for your time at Nous with a wide range of formal and informal learning opportunities through check-ins, webinars, online learning and on-project learning.
Our graduate consultants have the opportunity to work across all these service lines. You will get the opportunity to be involved in projects that:
- use advanced data analytics techniques to better design policy, strategy and services to solve 'wicked problems'
- re-design education innovation functions for a major university
- develop a strategy to respond to key health system challenges and reforms including the use of health analytics and technology
- design a strategy for a major Australian bank to grow its overseas operations
- review care coordination for Indigenous Australians with chronic disease, using data analytics and drawing on consultations with service providers and indigenous clients
- develop an international operating model for a large diversified investor
- re-design a financial services providers people and culture functions
- using co-design techniques work with victims and perpetrators of family violence to create a service development plan for a contract centre
As part of these projects, graduate consultants are involved in:
Investigation โ research and analysis, interviewing clients and their stakeholders, reviewing literature to identify key trends and draw out key insights.
Presentation โ assisting the development and presentation of correspondence, reports, presentations and articles, including statistical and graphical material.
Implementation โ including supporting project management, workshop facilitation support and organising workshops, conferences and seminars.
To succeed in a graduate consulting role at Nous you need to be:
- enthusiastic, curious and willing to learn
- intelligent and academically accomplished โ a Distinction average or above is essential
- able to undertake structured analyses in a logical and efficient manner
- able to demonstrate excellent written and oral communication skills
- well organised, with the ability to manage multiple pieces of work in an organised manner
- comfortable working autonomously and in a self-managed way, using initiative to draw on the expertise of those around you
- able to analyse and process quantitative data.

My daily responsibilities at Nous Group encompass researching industry trends, composing analytical reports, facilitating workshops, and collaborating closely with clients and colleagues to devise effective solutions. I continuously engage in critical thinking and creative problem-solving to address complex client challenges. My focus remains on delivering clear, data-driven insights and actionable strategies to drive organisational performance and outcomes.
As a graduate consultant I am supporting with research and analysis, as well as creating reports, slide decks etc.
They can be quite varied. I have done a lot of data analytics work at Nous, so my day could easily include modelling in R. A lot of other tasks that Nousers typically do is desktop research, where you will research a topic and collate the information into a coherent narrative.

Pros and cons of working at Nous Group
Pros
The workplace culture is warm and welcoming. They cultivate an environment that encourages knowledge sharing and high (but supported) performance.
The work we get to do is intellectually stimulating, meaningful, and impactful.
There is a (fairly) flat organisational structure, and you have a lot of opportunities to interact with principals - within projects, the team structure is well-balanced with senior and junior consultants and project directors are very hands-on.
They are invested in my personal development as a consultant and regularly provide feedback (positive and constructive) to help me grow.
Nous Group has delivered over $7 million in subsidised consulting through our Community Partnerships Scheme; our Stretch Reconciliation Action Plan directs our collective e๏ฌorts towards enhancing the self-determination and future of First Nations Australians; Operationally, they uphold sustainability through eco-conscious travel and procurement practices, waste reduction, emissions targets, and compensating for residual emissions.
Cons
The workload changes: sometimes it's really busy, and sometimes very quiet, but that's part of the job!
My company is ๏ฌexible. Sometimes there are longer days (until 7 pm for example) but the self-managed approach means it's up to each employee how they use their work hours (within reason of course).
The starting salary and super for a graduate is about standard compared to other companies. Depending on company performance and the speci๏ฌc contract you signed, you can receive a bonus at the end of the ๏ฌnancial year.
The training was good but was predominantly online and I think would have benefitted greatly from being in person. In terms of on-the-job training, it's fantastic. Our intranet and IP are great and there is so much to learn.
The hardest part of working at Nous is the hours - they aren't too bad, but sometimes you will have to ๏ฌex up on some nights to complete a deadline.
