What you'll work on

Our Production Engineers are hybrid Software/Systems Engineers that ensure our global low-latency trading system never misses a great trade. Think a mix of Site Reliability Engineers & DevOps. Sitting at the crossroads between our Development, Infrastructure and Trading teams, you'll collaborate on complex engineering problems. Our industry thrives on constant innovation. We move quickly which means things can break occasionally. You'll support our trading system as part of a global team, deep-diving into technical issues to understand why things break and to stop them breaking again.

You'll also:

  • Partner with Engineers and Traders to learn our systems and business
  • Use a broad range of technologies to develop the system we deploy, manage and monitor our trading platform on
  • Challenge the status-quo, knowing we can always be faster, smarter and more reliable
  • Have full access to our technology stack to understand what it takes to win in some of the most competitive markets in the world

What you'll learn

We're proud of our rigorous, high-quality tech bootcamp. Don't know anything about finance? No problem. Unfamiliar with C++? We've got you. Our dedicated Head of IT Education built a program to equip you with the knowledge and skills to set you up for success.
We'll give you the autonomy to work on impactful projects complemented by mentorship from a Senior Production Engineer to guide your progress.

Who you are

You're an Engineer who loves writing code and experimenting with open source technologies or hacking on Linux. It pains you to unearth poorly engineered solutions and even more so to not fix them. You keep your cool under pressure and love having a challenge to solve.

In addition you're:

  • Naturally curious and enjoy exploring whatever you're currently passionate about in depth
  • Interested in emerging technologies and the Linux OS
  • Able to make decisions and communicate effectively under time pressure
  • Driven to improve the technical systems at the core of Optiver's success
  • Comfortable programming in at least one language (C++, Java, Python or golang)

Eligibility

  • A final final-year/Honours/Masters/PhD student or a recent graduate (up to 4 years)
  • Studying a Computer Science, Software/Electrical/Mechatronic Engineering or similarly technical degree
  • An Australian or New Zealand Citizen, Australian Permanent Resident or able to secure full working rights after graduating

Due to the emphasis on business acumen, employees know about the business impact of what they work on, and why it matters. As a software dev, I work on maintaining and developing software solutions to solve business/compliance problems.
