Application Process & Interviews at Suncorp New Zealand

Interviews and assessment centres to find the best candidates but also fast responding time with the job offer.

I was fortunate to roll of the internship into the grad program because there was a position that opened up, but otherwise there was no grad roles made available to interns - I'd ensure there's an opportunity for grad roles if I were to make any changes.

Convoluted, long, first we had to complete a psych evaluation, recorded video interview, phone interview, then assessment centre. I understand that due to the number of applicants this is probably required.

It's quite rigorous, but it's done that way on purpose. It's very personality-driven, especially in the insurance space, but that's to allow people from diverse backgrounds have a chance at getting in.

The interview process went quite fast. I think within a month I had done my first application to getting my job offer. I first submitted my online application, then I undertook video testing, I then had a short phone call where I was invited to the assessment centre. I went to the assessment centre and the next day I was called and offered the role!

Questions about my values, who I admire, how I acknowledge diversity, what my goals are and my greatest strengths.

Mainly questions formed for the interviewer to get to know me and how I'm wired, and a few questions around how I'd respond in a situation and how I've responded in a situation

Why do I want to work at Suncorp

Who do I look up to and why? What was a difficult conflict situation I have dealt with in work/studies and how did I overcome it?

We were asked questions such as why we wanted to work for Suncorp, when was a time we received a good customer experience, and to explain a time where we had to work in a team.

Get familiar with the company's values and culture as this is key.

Relax, be genuine and prepare questions around culture, work/life balance, pro/cons of working at Suncorp

Learn about the insurance space so you can wow the leaders at the interview. Use the STAR method when answering questions. Understand that they want the best young talent so bring your A game.

Think about how insurance helps the customer - what does insurance really do?

Have a look into the company's mission & values and see if they align with your own. Bring a positive growth mindset attitude to the interviews

I would say to definitely read up on Suncorp to ensure you know what the company really stands for and its areas of the business. Also just to be yourself !
