Application Process & Interviews at Ventia

There was a video interview which consisted of 2 questions and one live video assessment center which included 8 people as well as certain executives of the company asking questions during the interview.

The hiring process involved multiple stages, starting with online modules and assessments. This was followed by several rounds of interviews, which assessed various skills and fit for the role.

After submitting my CV, cover letter and transcript before the next stage I was asked for proof of my citizenship. Next stage was Psychometric testing and then an online interview of 3 questions. Final stage was a 4-hour assesment centre, with other applicants. It included a group activity and a 9-question interview. Where each question was 2-3 mins and was asked by a different person. The thing I really loved was how responsive they were, there was no delays in communications when questions were asked, and they got back to me with in a day to let me know it I was accepted.

There was a lot of interviews and assessments to get into the graduate program.

For me the interview process was quick and chill - they ask a few questions and then started a few weeks later

Quite straightforward process.

Ventia as an internal recruitment arm named Skout Solutions who manage recruiting. As a graduate the process involved: 1. Psycometric testing 2. Video Interview 3. Phone call 4. Assessment centre No complaints, everything was smooth and in line with my experiences interviewing with other companies.

Online application, initial psychometric assessment, video interview (question and recorded answer), online phone screen, 3-hour online assessment center (group work and then 1-on-1 questions with different interviewers).

The hiring process was involved, with several different steps but was overall a positive experience to be a part of.

The interview pretty much followed the standard graduate interviewing process of; applying > literary/numerical assessments > online pre-interviewing > live interviews > offers. Overall think the general process for graduate applications are quite long and arduous however, think Ventia stood out during the live interview sessions. Whilst it was a long interview process, they had separate stations (breakout rooms) which looked at a certain types of questions or problems. Felt this approach let us showcase different facets of ourselves better.

A little bit lengthy, but not difficult.

Was a very long process. First was the psychometric tests. Then if you passed that a video interview where you just filmed your answers and sent them in. If you passed that round you moved to the assessment centres. Then the one on one interview after that round. This is where you would actually talk to the hiring person. Finally the reference check.

Resume shortlisting then written assessment then video recorded interview and then 3 hours face interview via zoom. The interview was thorough and different aspect based, multiple mini interview rounds along with group work to ensure team work and leadership quality

Interview and assessment centers were organised by Skouts. The experiences have been smooth and positive. Skouts are willing to create a mock interview trail for potential candidates to help them understand what is expected.

Interview process in steps and not too stressful

The process was fairly long, with several interview assessments to pass through, including a skills assessment, a brief video interview, and an assessment centre.

after selection of resumes we had two automated QA session. if you get qualified then proceed to another test, then AC day and if selected then medical etc

There were almost 4 rounds after application. This included aptitude tests, video interview, telephone interview, multiple mini-interview round and group assessment.

Interview was conducted professionally in-office. Human Resources were in contact before and after the interview to provide tips and feedback.

I was asked questions about how I am in a team, how I handle stress, how we handle failures, negative situations and how we comeback from that.

During the interviews, questions focused on evaluating my experience, problem-solving abilities, and cultural fit. Specific questions included: Can you describe a challenging project you worked on and how you managed it? How do you handle tight deadlines and prioritise tasks?

Sorry, this was two years ago I struggle remembering the questions. All I can remember that there's were videos I had to react to explaining how I feel, and my opinions. I also got given "problems" and how I would deal with the issues at hand. One included was about what would I do if I made a mistake while my manager was on vacation.

Previous work I had, what I studied, what I expect with the graduate program, who I am as a person and how to handle hardship with work.

More behavioural questions

Personality, conflict management, giving and receiving feedback

Don't remember specifically, but all fairly standard interview questions.

Mix of interview questions (strengths and weaknesses, a time when you've been innovative) and problem-solving questions.

One breakout room was themed around teamwork and gave a scenario based on it that I had to respond to. It was asking how I would respond to when someone on the team who is very reluctant to help the team.

Some of the questions I was asked included what drew me to the Ventia grad program, my strengths and weaknesses, times that I had been innovative in solving a problem, a time I had worked in a team to solve a problem, and role playing a scenario

general questions like soft skills, team play, providing solution to a business issue etc

Situational and behavioral questions checking on aptitude and traits.

Questions pertaining to; goal setting, emotional intelligence, working with colleagues, handling negative feedback, experience in handling difficult situations, future goals, personality and how free time is spent.

Be confident in your abilities and recognise that you are well-suited for the role. Understanding yourself and how you handle various situations is crucial. Many interview questions will focus on reflecting on your past experiences, what you've learned, and how you've overcome challenges. Familiarise yourself with the STAR method to effectively structure your responses. It's important to be authentic and true to yourself during the interview. If the job isn’t a good fit, it’s better for both you and the employer that it doesn’t work out. Don’t compromise your values or change who you are to fit a role.

I know everyone recommends the STAR method for answering questions, but I find it's good to keep in mind that you are trying to tell a story what the situation was, how you tried to deal with it and most importantly what the lesson was learned. For the interview, be prepared and comfortable for the assessment center and collaboration is one of Ventia's key values make sure to demonstrate it. Also show that you can adapt and be flexible as it is crucial for being in the graduate program.

To have a quiet place for the interviews and have a pen and paper to write down the information that is discussed.

Use the Star method when giving answers and use personal examples on how you have overcome some challenges

Learn about the company and what we do. Visit the company website to see what projects we've completed.

Research the company, its history (i.e. Broadspectrum, Transfield), our sectors and our projects. Coming into the interview have an idea of the type of work Ventia performs and some of our projects that interest you.

Researching our company and being aware of our strategy/values

A big tip I'd definitely recommend to other candidates is to be themselves. Since they look for you to be you. I think showcasing yourself helps them to understand how they could also help you bring out your potential and how they'll be able to help you in your career.

Try to take the initiative to look and find opportunities instead of thinking they'll come to you

Definitely research the company beforehand.

Have scenarios prepared that can be applied to multiple situations

Be yourself. try to answer everything with a real based example.

Be yourself and show-case your unique personality. Practice interview questions and psychometric games. Bring a pen and notepad to the interview. Bring your notes in dot points. Research about the company you're applying for and the job position. Ask questions if you're not sure about anything.

Practice and do your research about the company.

Have some ideas on issues and solutions to Uni or real life projects that they have done and to answer with confidence.

I would encourage candidates applying to Ventia to practice some interview questions and have an idea of the way you would answer both personal questions, like your strengths/weaknesses, or some more experience based questions, like times in your work/university you worked in a team to solve a problem

Just be your authentic self and relax while taking interviews so that you can give your best shot.

Questions revolved around getting to know you as a person. Sell yourself by highlighting your best qualities, even though they may not be related to the job.

Practice and prepare thoroughly, there are a lot of resources online for typical interview questions.
