Sustainability at NZ Transport Agency - Waka Kotahi

They encourage transport choice when getting to work e.g. busing, biking, driving. When travelling for work, active modes is heavily encourages e.g. taking a bus or train instead of a taxi or uber.

Being a government based organization who works for the general public, we often follow what the ministry of transport tells us to do through the government policy statement. In this regard, the commitment of our organization to sustainability will often direct the private sector (consultants) as well.

I also believe that everyone at NZTA is committed to reducing our environmental impact as a company.

Work in this area, we have continued many environment projects in light of reduced funding. But we do risk our legal responsibilities with lacking communication between project teams, contractors and environmental specialists. Social perception with mode shift experienced in government priorites also a big challenge.

The organisation strives with all its undertakings to ensure it does its work in a sustainable manner at all times. It has good resources and processes in place to help ensure they continually keep sustainability at the forefront.

Waka Kotahi has a big role to play in the Carbon Neutral Government Programme. Reducing corporate and non-corporate greenhouse gas emissions is a major focus for us, and this involves reducing vehicle kilometers travelled, supporting public transport, encouraging walking/cycling. We also have significant responsibilities under the government's emissions reduction plan.

Unsure, but there is are organics and recycling bins, and people don't often seem to use the printers so I would say there would have been a relatively major effort in the past that now seems standard.
