Pros & Cons
The level of independence afforded to us. Waka Kotahi has a very high trust culture, where you are trusted to work in whatever way/location works most effectively for you.
All the managers I have interacted with so far have been extremely knowledgeable and helpful in supporting me and my growth.
Great opportunities to work in a range of teams (during the two-year Emerging Professionals programme).
Very excited about the promotion opportunities at NZTA. The Emerging Professionals programme means that we finish our rotations with a guaranteed role in the organisation.
The organisation has a very dynamic and diverse culture. There are people from various backgrounds and cultures, which adds to the good experience of working there.
The worst thing about my workplace is the increased workload due to budget cuts and restructuring.
On the job training has been provided for my daily tasks. I wish that more formal training opportunities were available.
Delay in decision making.
You can have no work one day and be working to a tight deadline another day. This may be exciting or stressful depending on your preferences.
Public sector work may not have some of the luxuries afforded by private companies.

My day-to-day work has been very satisfying. My tasks feel meaningful, and I have been given the chance to work on and contribute to organizationally important activities.
The office I work in has hot desking, bookable meeting rooms, collaborative spaces, a good-sized lunchroom, sufficient kitchen & kitchenette facilities.
The process was very fluid, informative and engaging. We were communicated with on a regular basis and the assessment and interviews were very enjoyable.
