Lots of opportunities for training and development
Graduate, Christchurch - 16 Sep 2024
Graduates do a 2-year "graduate development programme" which consists of core and elective training courses (online self-learning modules and in-person or online workshop sessions) to develop skills such as effective feedback, presentation, professional writing, goal setting, project management, etc. The workshop sessions are a great way to discuss learnings and reflect on experiences with other graduates in your cohort. after the gdp, there is an opportunity to participate in a 2-year "accelerator programme" which consists of a series of workshops on the 7 habits of highly effective people, and training courses on financial acumen, legal matters, professional writing and project management. Participating in the 7 habits workshop series is an excellent opportunity to hear from leaders around the business and improve on your personal effectiveness.

There is no formal training and development program for technical expertise led by the company. There are online video tutorials but no trainers in my sector.
Graduate, Auckland - 13 Sep 2024
People can sometimes be too busy to bother with training you.
Graduate, Christchurch - 13 Sep 2024
Graduate program at wsp offers some great training opportunities
Graduate, Auckland - 12 Sep 2024
Lack of formal technical training for grads
Graduate, Christchurch - 12 Sep 2024
There hasn't been much training. As graduates, we are required to do a few courses such as professional writing and effective communication which is really beneficial. There is also site safety training. For my specific role, there is no structured training but I am free to research what I would like.

Great opportunities for formal training. Informal training happens all the time and has been a great way to progress. I have been peered with many senior engineers for mentorship to learn on the job
Graduate, Queenstown - 12 Sep 2024
Development programs are good, there are many which is good. Informal training was great as I learned a lot in a short amount of time.
Graduate, Christchurch - 12 Sep 2024
I have found the best training to be on projects which is where I have learnt the most
Graduate, Auckland - 12 Sep 2024
Graduate program has heaps of opportunities for training
Graduate, Napier - 12 Sep 2024
Formal training sessions online and in person through the graduate development program, on the job training on projects, information and training presentations within the team. Just so much learning technical and not.
Graduate, Auckland - 06 Sep 2024
Technical training mostly through experience, some internal technical training courses are offered but are largely dependent on the initiative of those with technical expertise running workshops etc. The mentorship program exists but has low engagement in my office. Have generally found that support in technical growth at a graduate level is inconsistent between teams and can be good/bad depending on those in your team.

There are a lot of induction modules which can be overwhelming for the first week or so, and then from there, there are a lot of workshops etc for grads which are quite useful (presentation skills, networking, formal writing, etc). I've also done a course to gain a certification already, and there are lots of people around who are able and willing to help me learn things more informally too (I.e., I can ask for help pretty easily)
Graduate, Christchurch - 04 Sep 2024
My team always look for ways to include me in their projects even when it may take them longer to complete. This has made me feel valued and that I'm constantly improving as an engineer.
Graduate, Auckland - 04 Sep 2024
Large reliance on staff training themselves via reading up on processes and procedures rather than providing training in the field
Graduate, Hamilton - 03 Sep 2024
There is lots of good formal training opportunities. With a big corporate though, the onboarding process is very painful
Graduate, Christchurch - 03 Sep 2024
Very much on the job training, I have not yet had any formal training for any technical or software skills I use day to day. Have picked up skills and gotten more familiar with the technical know how and software usage as I've worked on more projects. Been difficult to seek out training to attend due to pressure to meet utilization targets since training counts as non-utilized time.
Graduate, Christchurch - 03 Sep 2024
Done a bit of both. Online training is pretty boring but it's quick and easy
Graduate, Hamilton - 03 Sep 2024
On the job training is awesome. The training delivery is a combination of webinars, in-person, and informal 1-on-1 training.
