My favourite thing about the job is being able to see all the hard work, planning and decisions you make manifest in a physical way. 6 months ago I was sitting in a room looking at plans of the noise walls and now I get to walk past the finished product. There is nothing cooler than that.
Both internships gave me totally different experiences and allowed me to see first-hand the broad range of opportunities that Downer has to offer. These internships were my first experiences working in the construction industry.
Even if you know what career path you want to take in life, it doesn’t hurt to explore your options, especially if you can do it with a company that operates across Australia and New Zealand in a number of major sectors.
Enjoy your university life, get out there and learn as much as you can. You never know what you’re truly passionate about until you find yourself unexpectedly immersed at the moment.
I love getting out on site as much as possible and it’s also really good for me to keep up with learning about the practical side of construction in addition to the technical side.
