Commencing the day with a scenic drive to work, followed by a refreshing stroll through Hagley Park, my workday unfolds with tasks in lighting design for a mental health hospital.
I am currently undertaking construction monitoring on a new infrastructure project in Tauranga. Today I will be visiting two areas onsite to witness pavement preparation and to observe embankment construction.
To me what I love most about my job is when I have a problem, and work to find a couple of solutions and provide a good mini presentation to the reviewer/mentor/superior about what I think is correct.
The Powerco office in New Plymouth is in a nice section of native bush, and commonly on nice days you will see groups of people walking around the perimeter of the office.
I really enjoy stepping outside of my area of expertise and learning about what other disciplines do (for example surveying or fire engineering). The more I learn about other areas, the better I am at seeing a project as a whole product rather than just my civil design elements.
