Culture at AECOM New Zealand

7.9
7.9 rating for Culture, based on 89 reviews
Please describe your company's culture both in the office and after hours. Let us know about the structure and hierarchy, cooperation and teamwork, and socialising amongst colleagues.
People are friendly but socializing and mingling seems to be lacking, especially outside the immediate team. People work together well in the office environment.

It is easy to network with staff across departments and seniority. Sometimes the culture and events among graduate staff is less work focused and tends to be distracting.

in office is very good. I don't like that the occasional week will have me work over 40 hours to get a project done. after work is good when people turn up just it can be hard to get people to turn up to events

The office company culture could be improved but the work flexibility means that there are less people in the office every day. The young professional's group - Connect, have lots of events and opportunities to get to know other graduates, and there are lots of opportunities to get to know others in the business.

The culture is really good. Everyone is approachable and friendly. There are often events and networking for early professionals and the whole office. Senior leaders are very approachable and helpful, and easy to get in contact with. I have built good relationships with my colleagues here, I love the environment

Hamilton office is very easy-going and fun.

Love, love, love. Everyone is super kind and caring, you can talk to anyone and feel heard. My team lead makes the effort to check in with everyone everyday and is really supportive from a holistic perspective. As a team we all come to the office regularly, have weekly meeting and feel super on the same page. Social activities have been fabulous and a fun way to learn new things about colleagues outside of my immediate team.

Encouraging and friendly culture, with plenty of opportunities provided to socialize. In the office there is a convivial and easy-going atmosphere.

There is lots of events on within the company. The young professionals are supported through a social committee which plans events for them. However, there is also a social club which includes all age ranges in the office which also plans events allowing for that networking throughout the company. Everyone is super friendly and sparks a conversation or gives you a smile when walking around the office. As a graduate it is super daunting walking into your first office job, but the way it has been organised allows you to quickly make friends within your graduate cohort and the year above cohort as well as other young professionals and then expand your network with the rest of the company due to the many events and support system that is available.

AECOM has a great company culture but it lacks in the equity sector. Grads are not given as much power as everyone else which is fair to an extent. If we feel something is not right it does not usually get taken into consideration. After-hour culture is quite segregated in terms of age however during office hours, cooperation, teamwork, and socialising amongst colleagues are good within particular teams. (less so across teams)

Our office is small so you get to know everyone at some point. While we have a pretty vertical structure on paper, when you are working, the senior staff will be putting in just as much effort as the junior staff, you never really see anyone slacking off. Our office is super involved in growing our skills, you are never just a graduate, you are always a part of the team and if you ever need support there is someone there for you. We have several social committees in the office, with CONNECT specially for early professionals (less than 6 years), as co-chair, we put in a lot of effort for building connections between EPs and with the senior staff members, hosting internal and external networking events, lunch learns and coffee careers. 80% of staff can also be found in the breakroom on a Friday evening catching up socially before the weekend starts.

I find everyone is friendly to one another, I have my managers check in on how I am doing and making sure that I have work to do, and that they are actively looking for development opportunities for me. There are quite a few socialising events that really help strengthens connections within the office as well, and these events are put on by anyone, whether grad or professional.

The culture within the Young Professionals within AECOM is great - however there is that divide between YP and seniors. I think its just my team.
