Application Process & Interviews at Clean Energy Regulator

Online written application including resume and response to questions. In person interview and written assessment task on the interview day.

Compared to other graduate application processes, CER's was quite straightforward. No unnecessary psychometric testing or group tasks, just questions and tasks that were directly applicable to the roles.

The interview was professional but not intimidating.

I had to submit my resume and a short response to selection criteria. I then had a panel interview with several members of staff, and a short written task.

Four standard behavioural questions. For example, "tell us about a time when you motivated a group towards a common goal".

I was asked typical questions that sought to understand my interest in the agency and how I could use my skills, knowledge and personal attitude to help the organisation achieve its goals.

Standard interview prep. Research the agency. Practice answering questions. Think of examples to support your answers.

Research the work of the agency - in particular the three schemes the agency administers (National Greenhouse and Energy Reporting (NGER), Emission Reduction Fund (ERF), Renewable Energy Target (RET)).

Try to understand the overall context surrounding organisation as best you can - read their annual reports, research the work that they do, and see if they've been mentioned in the news recently. And don't underestimate the value of your previous experiences, even if they don't seem relevant at first glance.

Be genuinely interested in engaging in this area of work (i.e., climate and energy policy).
