Intern, Palmerston north - 08 Aug 2024
Powerco had a 3-year program, with 6 months rotation in design, planning, protection, asset fleets, chief engineers' team and field work. I pick up skill from reviewing transformer, cable and overhead design. Analyse the network system and apply first principles
Graduate, New plymouth - 23 Jul 2024
Powerco sends its employees to different training from time to time. Eg. 1A 1b electricity safety training, earthing course, sincal workshop, roadside inspection
Graduate, New plymouth - 23 Jul 2024
In terms of training there are many opportunities to gain new skills and the company is more than happy to pay for some of the training as well. I have been able to get some first aid training, some safety inductions, learning load flows and will be going to a pscad training soon as well.
Graduate, New plymouth - 22 Jul 2024
The graduate rotations give you expose and work in multiple roles at the company. After the graduate program, each team has a designated training budget.
Graduate, New plymouth - 22 Jul 2024
The graduates rotate around the different teams in powerco. We spend about 12 - 15 weeks in each rotation. Each team will use some different applications and software. I have learned to use different applications in each different rotation. I have gained knowledge about the different types of assets used on the powerco network and what impacts the life of these assets and the optimal time to replace assets. I have also undertaken several rmu replacement projects.

While there's not much formal training program in the graduate program at the moment, we can request to go on courses related to our positions quite freely and they're usually pretty happy for you to do them within reason.
Most of the skills I've picked up have been on the job, a lot of learning new software, and learning about technical information through internet research or talking to on of the more senior engineers.
