Application Process & Interviews at RCP

I got my internship as I was the Keystone Scholarship RCP recipient of 2023.

Really good - extremely welcoming in the interview and nice environment (even though it was on Teams), a good "feel" was established.

Quick turn around on decision which was required as I had other job offers to accept/reject on a tight schedule.

Interview was quick and easy, felt like a simple conversation.

The interview process involved seeking to identify what type of person you are rather than the qualifications and experience you have.

I had my first interview in which I was asked question about myself and the interviewers explained what my role would be / day to day tasks. I was called in for a second interview which was held with a different interviewer. This was generally the same questions. They made these interviews more comfortable by making it feel more as a conversation.

I had to do an online application, followed by a pre-recorded online interview, followed by a real life interview. This is standard and I think an appropriate process for hiring for a job like this. My comments would be it would be good to give a little more time for candidates to complete their online interview. I think it was only two or three days from receiving the invite. My personal situation was I was in the UK and had to complete my interview a few hours before I caught a plane from London to Auckland which was stressful. I also had limited time to prepare for it prior as i was getting ready to leave. Following my in-person interview, there was a fair time delay in hearing back too. Otherwise it was great, and communication was kept up while i was waiting. I didn't notice at the time, but RCP should have a look at how they word their job listings to ensure the language isn't overwhelmingly agentic. If we want to attract more women to our workforce and industry, we need to employ more communal language. Make it sound less like a man's world.

The interview process was standard application and shortlist to interview. As a grad, there were no 'assessments' on prior experience/knowledge. I am aware that my process has changed since joining (from interns/grad applications). The response post-interview can be improved. There was a delay in job offer/decline.

I cannot specifically remember what questions were asked but it involved where I came from, and having to talk about myself.

I was queried about my interests, time management, writing abilities, how I work under pressure, teamwork etc.

Be your true self and be confident in showing that.

Be yourself - understand the company you are applying for and their values. Think how you would add value to the company. Recognise areas of growth.

Ensure to be yourself, the company is hiring you for who you are.

Be you and always remember to research the company and their values before you apply

Be yourself and have confidence that you are good enough to be there.

Research the company very thoroughly and identify specific things you like about them. Identify your own USP and clearly exhibit your enthusiasm.

Have 'practice' interviews with siblings, parents, friends etc. Interviews can be nerve wracking so I found it helpful to practice what I could say to potential questions incase I got flustered in the interview.

Dress well. RCP is open to people from a wide range of backgrounds.

Give yourself a holistic understanding of project management. Research the company and the key projects they're managing.
