Recruitment Process

Depending on the role you've applied for we have a few different steps to our recruitment process. This may include a phone interview, an online assessment to learn more about your preferred way of working, a skills-based assessment or we may even have you complete your very own video interview to help bring your application to life.

Application:

All our current vacancies are advertised on our careers page and all applications need to be submitted online. Once you have identified a job that you're interested in, simply click 'Apply'. As part of the application process, we will ask you some questions upfront to learn more about you in relation to the job you have applied for. Don't forget to have your CV/resume on hand as we'll need to see that too!

You will receive an email straight away from us acknowledging your application. After this, someone from our recruitment team will be in touch by either phone or email. We try to get back to you as soon as we can but for some roles, we receive a large number of applications – if this is the case please bear with us we are working hard to review all the applications as fast as possible!

Screening:

Phone interviews, video interviews, some testing relevant to role are all utilised by Fonterra's recruitment team

Assessment Centre / Interview:

For some roles, we will arrange a face-to-face interview or you may be invited to attend an assessment centre. Don't worry though – we're here to help prepare you with the right information so you can give it your absolute best shot.

The interview isn't just about us seeing if you're right for the role; it's also the perfect chance for you to see whether we're right for you. You'll have the opportunity to ask us questions too!

If you are successful following the interview stage, we will request that you undertake pre-employment checks, which may include all or some of the following:

  • Reference check
  • Criminal background check
  • Entitlement to work check
  • Credit check
  • Pre-employment medical check for some roles/locations
  • Other roles also require more specific checks that you will be made aware of if applicable.

Once you have completed all the aspects of our recruitment process and been identified as a successful candidate you will be sent a contract that will formalise the job offer. This will also include other information you'll need to make an informed decision.

At Fonterra, we do not make offers verbally, although we may discuss aspects including location, salary/wage, and possible start dates with you over the telephone or by email prior to you receiving your contract.

What Graduates Say About Them
  • The best part of the company is everybody is friendly and welcoming, and it organizes programs like morning tea and end-of-month drinks where we can meet and share our thoughts.
  • Responsibility as a grad within rotations. Wide range of exposure within the company between people and opportunities.
  • Fonterra places importance on developing their employees and giving them excellent opportunities.
  • Collaborative culture, supportive seniors, and a positive atmosphere.
  • Flexible working—WFH 2/3 days for business grads is the norm.
  • Expectations of us as grads are sky-high, and our manager's influence extends outside work.
  • Pay doesn’t feel fair—new graduates coming in at a higher salary than those who have been here almost two years.
  • A lot of change—mergers, divestments, and restructures, which can leave a sense of unease.
  • The culture varies so much between teams, which means that work and support can be variable.
  • Sometimes lack of support from the seniors because most of them are tied up with projects.
